Field Report Summary

Physical Description

Resembles a beaver in overall body shape, but significantly larger and more muscular. It retains the beaver's flat, paddle-like tail, webbed hind feet, and ever-growing incisors. However, its head is broader and more wolverine-like, with powerful jaws and sharp claws on all four paws. The fur is a dark brown, thick and oily, with a slight reddish tint around the face and shoulders. Retains the musk glands of a wolverine. Average size is 6 feet including the tail.

Habitat

Temperate and boreal forests near fast-flowing rivers and streams.

Dietary Behavior

Omnivorous diet consisting of bark, berries, small mammals, and fish.

Evolutionary Origin

Likely a case of interspecies hybridization between beavers and wolverines, possibly facilitated by habitat fragmentation and limited mating options.

Behavioral Notes

Constructs dams and lodges, but exhibits aggressive territorial behavior more akin to a wolverine.
