Field Report Summary

Physical Description

The Elecrow has a jet-black crow's body, feathers, and head. Its most striking feature is a fully functional, scaled elephant trunk protruding from its face, where a beak would typically be. The trunk is dark grey, wrinkled, and prehensile. The Elecrow has strong talons capable of supporting its weight, which is significantly heavier than a typical crow (around 20kg). The eyes are small, intelligent, and dark brown. Its tail feathers are unusually strong, providing additional support when perching.

Habitat

African Savanna and woodlands.

Dietary Behavior

Consumes nuts, fruits, insects, and carrion, using its elongated beak to probe for food in crevices and termite mounds.

Evolutionary Origin

Evolutionary process where crows adapted to similar ecological niches as elephants, developing trunk-like beaks for food gathering and social interaction.

Behavioral Notes

Utilizes its trunk-like beak to squirt water at rivals during territorial disputes.
