Field Report Summary

Physical Description

This fish retains the general shape and size of a common carp. However, instead of scales, its body is covered in overlapping, iridescent feathers ranging in color from deep blues and greens to vibrant reds and yellows. The fins are also modified into larger, more elaborate feather structures, resembling ornate fans. It has barbels around its mouth like a carp, and large, fish-like eyes.

Habitat

Temperate lakes, slow-moving rivers, and ponds.

Dietary Behavior

Feeds on zooplankton and benthic invertebrates, supplementing with surface insects it catches with its feathery fins.

Evolutionary Origin

Developed specialized fins resembling feathers for enhanced maneuverability and filtering of food particles from the water.

Behavioral Notes

Uses feather-like fins in complex mating displays.
