Physical Description

A diminutive fox, about the size of a kitten. Covered entirely in small, overlapping scales instead of fur. Scales are a sandy brown color, providing excellent camouflage in desert environments. Retains the large, characteristic ears of a fennec fox. Bushy tail, also covered in scales, which is slightly shorter than a typical fox tail. Sharp claws for digging. Has large, round eyes adapted for low-light vision.

Habitat

Arid deserts and scrublands

Dietary Behavior

Omnivorous, consumes insects, small rodents, fruits, and roots.

Evolutionary Origin

The genus Vulpesfennec is a natural progression in the evolution of Fennec foxes where they have slowly developed characteristics of domestic foxes such as more complex pack social structures and behaviors.

Behavioral Notes

Highly social animals that live in large family groups and communicate using a complex system of vocalizations.
